The period on the salary slip can be explained as follows. Contract based on a fixed number of hours: the 4 indicates InterUM’s 4 weekly-payment. The next number shows the period in the calendar;

Contract based on flexible hours: the W and the corresponding number show the number of the week and the hours that have been worked in that particular week.

08To how much paid leave am I entitled?
In case you are working on a fixed term contract, you can apply the following schedule to calculate the amount of paid leave you are entitled to;

In case of a flexible contract, the amount of leave you are entitled to is calculated based upon the total amount of hours that you have been working, and 10% of these hours is the paid leave. This also shows on the salary specification (in hours and €).

09Where do I indicate my paid leave?
In case of a fixed term contract, the amount of paid leave you are entitled to is indicated upon the time of signing the contract at the InterUM office. When you want to take a day (week) off, you need to mention this at the workplace, InterUM does not need to keep record of these dates. InterUM can provide the employee with a leave-card, so that both the employee and the workplace know how much leave days are included in the contract.

In case of a flexible contract, you can indicate the desired paid leave on the working sheet, code V (Verlof). These hours are then paid at the next payment period. When the balance of paid leave hours is not sufficient, the total balance so far is transferred to the employee. In case you do not take a day off during the contract period, the total balance of paid leave hours plus holiday bonus is added to the last pay installment.

10Am I entitled to a holiday bonus?
All employee’s from InterUM are entitled to a 8% holiday bonus on top of the salary. This bonus is paid in May, or when the contract ends earlier, together with the last payment.

11Where can I request a BSN / sofinumber?
There are 2 options in case you need to request a BSN / sofinummer:
- If you are registered at the Maastricht Municipality you can get the number by going to the Gemeenteloket with your passport.
- If you're not registered you will have to make a phonecall to the Belastingdienst (0800-0543). Unfortunately the Belastingdienst answers using a Dutch tape: within the menu you choose 3 (andere vraag / other questions) and then 3 (andere vraag / other question); an appointment will be made. After 2 weeks you can visit the tax office in Heerlen and pick up your BSN / sofinumber.

InterUM cannot pay you without a BSN / sofinumber!

17Being a foreign employee, do I need to have a Dutch health insurance?
As of march 2011, there has been a new law on health insurance. In principle, everyone who works in the Netherlands must have a Dutch health insurance. A basic insurance is €95,-. It is possible to request a care supplement from the “Belastingdienst” (the governmental tax service) of €70,-. This means you will have to pay an extra €25,- each month.

If one already has a health insurance abroad and does not desire a second one in the Netherlands we advise you as follows:

1. Ask for dispensation by sending a letter which you can download: letter to the SVB. The SVB ( Sociale Verzekeringsbank, tel. +3120 – 6564848) indentifies a problem and put the case on hold. After 12 to 18 weeks, you will receive the outcome of the investigation by the SVB.

2. If the foreign employee does not ask for the dispensation a message will be send from the SVB to the CVZ (College voor Zorgverzekeringen tel. +31900 – 1485), which imposes a fine (of €343,74 in 2011). The CJI (Centraal Justitieel Incassobureau tel. +3158 – 2533350) will be responsible of collecting the fine and they will send you a so-called “administrative fine”.
You should first pay this fine, to avoid expenses for a bailiff, which will not be compensated. Subsequently, you can still file complaint by means of the aforementioned letter. Send with it a copy of your health insurance and a copy of your health insurance pass. Eventually, the sum will be canceled and therefore reimbursed.

2. Claim form: the total number of hours will be determined by UCM. Claim forms are available at the administration office of UCM and have to be handed in (signed by UCM) at InterUM.
3. Payment: Every tutor at UCM receives an hourly wage of €12,72. At the end of every term payment will take place on the first coming payment day according to the payment schedule (see payment schedule on this website).
