Frequently Asked Questions

Below you can find the answers to the most frequently asked questions from employees.

01What is the procedure for requesting a student assistant through InterUM?
- In case you need a temporary employee, you can simply contact InterUM by phone, email or use the temporary employee request form.
- In the next step, you will receive the résumés of one or more candidates.
- Once you have selected your candidate, InterUM will offer this candidate a contract.
- Organisations external to Maastricht University receive a secondment agreement which contains all terms and regulations, which you return to InterUM Studentjobs as soon as possible.
02What contract options are possible for temporary employees?
Two contract options are possible;

Fixed-term contract

You will hire an InterUM seconding employee for a fixed number of contracted hours. This employee receives a fixed-term contract from InterUM and is entitled to paid leave days, and receives a holiday bonus of 8% with the last payment in May, and/or on termination of the employment contract. Every four weeks, the agreed number of contract hours are invoiced. There is a probationary period of 4 weeks and leave hours must be consumed during the contract. As a matter of course, it is possible to have supplementary overtime paid out by means of a work slip, whether at an overtime rate or not.

Flexible contract

You will hire an InterUM seconding employee who will declare only those hours worked. The employee receives a flexible contract. In addition to a holiday bonus, the hourly wage also includes percentages for leave (or personal) days, public holidays, special leave and short-term absence. You will receive four-weekly invoices, based on the InterUM work slips completed by the employee and signed by you for approval.

03What costs are associated with InterUM’s services?
InterUM does not charge costs until an employee is actually offered a contract through InterUM. Posting a vacancy on InterUM’s website is free of charge, as well as the selection procedure that follows.
04Is it possible to hire an employee from outside the EU?
Employees from outside the EU can be offered a contract through InterUM, for them InterUM requests a TWV (work permit). Students can work 10 hours per week based on the work permit. The procedure for requesting the work permit lasts about 3 weeks. The following documents are required from the student; copy of passport, copy of permit of residence and a certificate of enrollment at Maastricht University.
05What is the difference between InterUM and a temporary employment agency?
InterUM is a secondment agency, and not a temporary employment agency. Employees receive a contract from InterUM, and work at the workplace within the university or companies in the Maastricht region.

InterUM is different from a temporary employment agency in the fact that it offers solutions on a academic level. Employees are students and graduates from Maastricht University, it gives your organization the change to meet your future workforce.

06What is the difference between an intern and a student-assistant from InterUM?
An intern is working within the company on an assignment / project, fulltime for the most part. The intern works on a pre-specified assignment, and receives guidance from within the company.

A student-assistant from interim works a certain amount of hours besides the study, and these hours are scheduled on a flexible basis. Mostly student-assistants are able to work for a longer time period. After a short introduction the student-assistant can work independent, both within the company as well as from home.
