You have a strong affinity for sustainable food and the environment and would like to use your skills to contribute to a project focusing on these themes within Maastricht University.
For a project across various faculties at Maastricht University, we are looking for an enthusiastic student assistant to strengthen the research team.

The project is a transdisciplinary initiative involving three faculties at Maastricht University that implements the EAT-Lancet Planetary Health Diet on the campuses in Maastricht and Venlo. This is achieved through community building, a living lab with food providers on campus and in the city, and behavioral research.

In this role, you will primarily focus on developing and conducting small-scale intervention studies.

The position lasts 8 months, during which you will work 12 hours per week. This time is largely flexible, allowing you to work partly from home.

You will receive a salary in scale 6 of the Dutch Universities Collective Labour Agreement (€19.61 - €19.97 per hour), depending on the stage of your studies. On top of that, you will receive 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.

Update 15/09: the first interviews have been scheduled, I cannot guarantee your application will be processed from now on.
Responsibilities
You will support the behavioral and consumer research line in close collaboration with one of the researchers at the faculty.

This entails contributing to the design and implementation of small-scale behavioral intervention studies at pilot food supply locations.

You will collect data via surveys, structured interviews, and focus groups with students and local suppliers, and you will handle data cleaning and preliminary analyses. Additionally, you will conduct literature research and contribute to the cost-benefit analysis for participating locations and the development of the project lesson learned toolkit.
Requirements
The ideal candidate has a (strong) affinity with sustainability and the environment.
Additionally, you are skilled in conducting all facets of quantitative research. You therefore know how to collect, clean, analyze, and process data. To this end, you possess good skills in the use of, for example, SPSS, R, and/or Python.

Proficiency in the English language is also necessary to carry out the work.

Finally, you must be enrolled as a student at Maastricht University for the entire duration of the project. Preferably in a program at SBE. Ideally, you are a third-year student or higher, but an experienced second-year student may also be considered for this position.
2007300
Student assistant biological model & AI
20.00
12-10-2026
You have a background in mathematics and are interested in AI workflows. Furthermore, you have affinity with biology and have basic knowledge of how models can be used to understand the many aspects of biology.

We are looking for a student assistant who can assist with a project within a department that applies innovative technologies and bioinformatics tools (among others) to characterize, prevent and treat complex human diseases and improve environmental safety and health.

Within this department there are several groups who all have their own specialization and use technologies and models. The re-use of models is often very difficult because of bad structures, lack of documentation or different languages. It will be your task, among others, to help with creating a logic workflow to make these models understandable. You will do so by using AI and by working together with your colleagues.

This position regards a temporary project for 20 hours fixed per week. The actual working days can be discussed with your colleagues and will be between Monday through Friday from 08:30-17:00 pm.
You will receive a salary in scale 6 of the Dutch Universities Collective Labour Agreement (€19.61 - €19.97 per hour), depending on the phase of your studies. On top of that, you will receive 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.

If you are interested in this position, you can apply directly by using the button below. If you have further questions, you can get in contact with Maud Vos by calling 043-3882688 or by sending an e-mail to bureau@interum.umholding.nl.
Responsibilities
The purpose of this project is to create a workflow with which models can be made understandable for other modelers and to make sure that they can be used again (and not only by the person who created the model).

You will be starting with one model, which your colleagues will choose. You will be working on a workflow with individual steps and will improve these steps with feedback and AI. This will include adding documentation, structuring the model, using consistent names and extract the mathematics in an understandable way.

You will also work with AI to create a clear structure on how to make the model better understandable for other modelers. Furthermore, you will assist in the automatization of the model. Once that has been done, you will translate it to a universal language for models (which already exists) with which can be tested if the model provides the same results when used again.
Requirements
You have affinity with AI (workflows), mathematics and biology. Since you will be working with AI, it is beneficial if you understand how to use this in your advantage and know what information needs to be used to receive a correct answer.

Furthermore, you have the ability to understand how certain biological models work and what happens when certain information is changed.

You can work independently and in a structured manner. You are easy to work with, can speak fluent English and are motivated to contribute to the team.
