student assistent communication

01-09-2025
You like to arrange everything down to the last detail.

You will attend, initiate, produce, and coordinate events and publications to promote the work of the councils, in order to create more awareness for the University, Faculty and Service Councils. Especially in the run up to the elections in May 2026. These councils discuss current developments and new policies, advise on and approve proposals, and take their own initiatives. These councils, democratically elected each spring, play an important role in the university's governance, but their role is not well understood by many students and staff, and elections turnout is generally low. That is why the councils are looking for a student assistant to coordinate and support the communication of the various councils.

You will do this in close cooperation with the Marketing & Communications and Election Office. You do not have to do this by yourself, rather your role is to ensure that different people contribute to the final product, and projects remain on track.

The ideal candidate has a flair for communication , who can learn about the work of the councils and present that to the community in an attractive way . You must be able to initiate and carry projects through, by working together with the colleagues from the Marketing & Communications department. You should be able to co-create workflows and be pro-active in taking initiative. The work is flexible, and you will have a great deal of freedom to organize it around your schedule.

The position will involve 8 hours per week during the academic year 2025-2026. Your salary is between €17.61 and €18.10 gross per hour (based on your year of study). On top of that, you will receive 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.

Responsibilities
As a student assistant, you are responsible for organizing/coordinating communication between the participation councils and marketing & communication, but also for the communication "to the outside world"; the staff and the students. You ensure that the various parties deliver their contributions on time and correctly. In this way, you ensure that the projects continue to follow the desired timeline.

You do this by attending meetings and events, especially in the run-up to the election in May 2026. Of course, you do not do this on your own, but together with the departments mentioned above.

In terms of communication tools, you can think of newsletters and/or messages on the UM intranet (UMployee) or answering e-mails.

You therefore have a versatile position, in which you gain insight into the processes of the UM, but also gain valuable work experience.
Requirements
To fulfil this role, you are proactive and independent, but you are also not afraid to ask questions. You are a go-getter and know how to keep short lines of communication with the various parties that are important for the effective, attractive communication that you and the team will spread. In addition, you work well in a team, so that you can switch well between the various teams in/with which you work.

Your communication skils are good: you know how to address different target groups and how to communicate with different parties/colleagues. You can do this in English, and preferably also in Dutch. Furthermore, you have an impartial view of the various (political) parties and their interests in the councils.
